Actions of the Lion Dance

起狮 (Starting of the sequence)

This sequence is done mostly at the start of the sequence of lion dance actions and between 2 "huas" (see below). It signifies the lion's awakening and imitates the actions of a lion getting ready

行礼 (The Lion Bows)

This action signifies the lion paying respects in the form of 3 bows.

七步 (Seven Steps)


小剪 (First Cross)

探脚 (Exploration)

中剪 (Second Cross)

大剪 (Last Cross)


擦背 (rubbing of back)

This action signifies the lion using its back to test out the stability of the mountain path or route it is about to take.

收鼓 (End of Sequence)

This sequence is often played at the end of a performance.
